Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. – Anne Isabella Ritchie
I am a single parent of two beautiful children, who are not really children anymore. They are both in college. My daughter will be graduating soon and heading off to medical school; my son will also be graduating from college soon as a linguist. I am proud of both my children. The one thing they always are saying is that they don’t have enough money. I think this is common among college students.
What I found
I wish I had found this site before now. I would have been able to help them sooner get the needed money for their college extras. Things like dorm costs, housing/apartment costs, and extra money for them to go to school and not worry about where their next meal would be coming from (although they did not hesitate when offered a free meal at home). My children are proud college students. They know the saying “Poor College Student.” I have heard that many a time from them.
My goal is to reach out to these “Poor College Students” and give them the opportunity to make some money, without having to rely on their parents. It is sad that the college students have to struggle with money problems as well as try to keep up their good grades and attend classes. These Students cannot get government help except in the form of student loans. That is not right. Students should not, in my opinion, have to graduate from college with a big debt.
My belief is that students can, with this website, find the extra money for school. Even though a student can get scholarships most students don’t have enough scholarship money to help them get through college.
Yes, there are grants and scholarships out there for classes and sometimes for books. But all the other necessities in life are not included. So students need to find other sources of income to provide for the “extras” that a student may want or need to have for the classes.
I know when I was in college, I did not have enough money to do all the extracurricular activities, pay for the college classes, and live on my own as a responsible adult. I am still paying off my student loans after 20+ years.
Why I made this site
I don’t want to see students end up like me and have debt galore when they graduate from college. It is just not right. So I am making this website for all those college students, both present, and past, who know the struggle it is to make good grades and not have the money to pay for college without loans. I would like them to know how to “fish” as the saying above says and not have to worry about asking for a hand out all the time. More reasons for this site
Another reason for my making this site is because I believe that students should have the best advantage at doing well in college. If I had known that there were study music and other things in one place, I would have used them to get ahead in college. For me, I don’t like to fail. Although I have since learned that failure is only a step to success, it is still ingrained in me to not want to fail.
